PRACTICE

Dance & Drama are valuable parts of your child’s overall education. We encourage you to take an active interest in classes and class activities. Here are a few suggestions and tips about things that can be done to enrich your child’s experience each week:

• Encourage your student to set up rehearsal and practice schedules for each class, even if it is only for 15 minutes a day. Ask them to share new steps and projects with you and take and active role in practicing with them. A student does not excel in their studies if they do not do their homework, nor will they excel in Dance, Tumbling or Drama if they do not practice daily.
• Make-up Classes: If your child is ill and misses class, please contact Heather, Stacy or Sue about a make-up class in dance, or if there is any homework your child can be doing to keep up with the drama classes. If you know your child will not be attending class, please make arrangements prior to the class. REGULAR ATTENDANCE ASSURES THE MAXIMUM CLASS BENEFIT. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR REGULAR ATTENDANCE.
• Encourage your child to bring a recording device or cassette tape so that your student may take the music home with them to practice with in dance. For drama students, please provide a notebook and folder in which they can keep all information and scripts for class. All Dance & Drama students should bring a pencil to class for note taking.

DANCE CLASSROOM RULES

• Respect your teachers by being on time and dressing appropriately for class.

• Cell phones are not permitted in the dance area and must be kept in your dance bag in the changing area. Cell phones must be shut off or on silent mode. There will be no exceptions unless parental request has been established.

• Sweaters, leg warmers and warm-ups are permitted so long as they are of a solid color (preferably black), are form fitting and appropriate for dancing. These warm-ups must be removed after barre and before center work is started.

• Any visible undergarments, bare midriffs and inappropriate clothing will not be permitted in class.

• If you are more than 15 minutes late to class, you will not be allowed to participate in class and you will need to sit and take notes.

• If you are not dressed according to the dress code, you will be given one warning. If you come to class a second time without the appropriate dress, you will be asked to sit and take notes for that class.

• If you are disrespectful, (talking in class, not paying attention, etc), you will be asked to sit and take notes.

• Please treat your fellow dancers with kindness and respect.

• We strongly recommend a dance bag for dance shoes and/or clothing changes.

• Please write name on dance shoes and bag.

• Leave valuables, jewelry, watches and money at home.

• Wear street shoes into studio, and then change into dance shoes. Don't wear your dance shoes outside of the studio.

• Water bottles are permissible in class if the lid is secure.

• No food or drinks besides water are allowed in the classroom.

• Place water bottles against the bench next to the dance floor, well away from the dance area.

• Absolutely no gum in the dance studio.

• For their safety, young children must be with a parent at all times when not in the dance studio

• Parent must return to pick up young children before class ends.

• Please notify the studio in advance of any absences or vacations.

• We are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

DRAMA CLASSROOM RULES

• Please be on time and dressed in comfortable clothing.

• Open-toed shoes are not permitted in the Drama Classroom. Please wear closed-toed shoes only.

• Please bring a folder, pencil and paper for important information & note taking.

• If you are disrespectful, (talking in class, not paying attention, etc), you will be asked to sit and take notes.

• Please treat your fellow actors with kindness and respect.

• Absolutely no gum in the classroom.

• Water bottles are permissible in class if the lid is secure.

• Please notify the drama studio in advance of any absences or vacations.

Some of our instructors live out of town, therefore, classes may have to be cancelled and rescheduled.  Please make sure we have a way of contacting you during the day to let you know if you need to make other arrangements for your dancer/actor. You may also call Heather Dore' Johnson or Sue Weaver for clarification.  Please note that some dance and drama classes are held during school holidays.
